Confirmed features versus community assumptions
Six things people already "know" about Diablo V that Blizzard never said.
Two days after an announcement, the gap between what was said and what is being repeated is already measurable. This page is our own analysis, not a reveal.
| Assumption | What was actually said |
|---|---|
| "Diablo V is always online." | Nothing. Connectivity requirements have not been mentioned. |
| "There will be seasons and a battle pass." | Nothing. The business model has not been described. |
| "Five classes at launch." | Three revealed, more promised, no total named. |
| "It's an open world like Diablo IV." | A procedurally altered world with a travelling caravan. Structure beyond that is unstated. |
| "Runewords work exactly like Diablo II." | Runes and runewords "in the style of" Diablo II. Mechanics not detailed. |
| "The Demon Hunter is the Diablo III character." | No narrative link has been stated. |
The pattern
Almost every assumption above is a port of Diablo III or Diablo IV behaviour onto a game that has explicitly described itself as leaning on Diablo II. Reaching for the most recent entry is the default, and it is usually wrong during a four-year development window.
How we handle this
Anything on HellCodex that is our reading rather than Blizzard's statement is labelled Analysis, including this page. If a claim here ever becomes confirmed, it moves to confirmed features and the change is logged.
