Diablo V announced at BlizzCon 2026
A sequel that opens after the heroes have already lost.
Blizzard has announced Diablo V. The game is in an early development phase and is targeted for release in spring 2029.
The premise is the headline: the heroes of the past failed. Sanctuary has fallen, Diablo has won, and he rules from the throne of Westmarch. Sanctuary now serves as the launch point for an assault on the High Heavens, with the population and their souls used as weapons in the Eternal Conflict.
The player takes the role of the Heir to Westmarch. Blizzard confirmed that a connection exists between the player character and Diablo, without explaining it.
Classes at reveal
Three classes were named: the Demon Hunter, fighting with two crossbows from the shadows; the Monk, fighting in melee with fists and holy power; and the Plague Knight, an entirely new class that spreads diseases and then consumes them as a source of power.
What was not said
No platforms, no business model, no pre-orders, no exact date, no test phases. Blizzard did say it intends to publish development updates regularly from 2027.
