Diablo II-style inventory explained
Item size matters again - and so does what you leave behind.
Confirmed: in Diablo V, items of different sizes occupy different numbers of inventory squares.
That single sentence restores a mechanic Diablo III deliberately simplified. A grid where a two-handed weapon costs four times what a ring costs turns inventory into a real decision: what you pick up is what you do not pick up.
Why it pairs with the caravan
With no permanently safe city, the cost of returning to sell is not a loading screen. Space pressure and a travelling hub push in the same direction: carrying capacity becomes a resource rather than an inconvenience.
The connection between the two systems is our analysis. Blizzard confirmed both, not the interaction.
About "84 slots"
You will see Diablo V's inventory given as 84 slots, against Diablo II's 40. That figure is Path of Exile co-creator Chris Wilson counting the squares of the concept inventory shown at the reveal - material Blizzard labelled as in development and not final. It is a fair count of a picture. It is not a number Blizzard or any developer has given, so it is filed as a rumor, with its origin, on rumors and open questions.
Unknown
- Grid dimensions and stash size.
- Whether stacking or currency items bypass the grid.
- Whether the caravan provides shared or expandable storage.

Added where the "84 inventory slots" figure comes from: a count of the concept inventory shown at the reveal, not a number Blizzard has given.
