Dread Commanders: humanity as Diablo's officer corps
The people who did not merely submit.
Blizzard described three fates for humanity under Diablo's rule: submission, cult membership, or corruption into a powerful Dread Commander.
Why a third category exists
The first two are familiar. The third is a design statement: it creates a class of human antagonist with real power, which gives the game a reason to put a face on an encounter without reaching for another demon.
What we do not know
- Whether Dread Commanders are bosses, a rank, or a systemic enemy type.
- Whether they are named characters with history from earlier games.
- Whether the procedural world affects which ones you encounter.
- Whether corruption is reversible in any of the three cases.
None of those have been addressed.
